Out-of-home screens urge shoppers to join the Na’vi

Los Angeles shoppers are today being morphed into tall blue aliens by a digital out-of-home promotion for the home-entertainment release of Avatar.

Film company Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has teamed up with out-of-home specialist Inwindow Outdoor to put an interactive installation in The Grove, an LA shopping centre, for the next month.

The structure, measuring 60x10 feet and incorporating three separate branded screens, is built around an existing statue that forms a focal point of The Grove.

It uses facial-recognition technology to grab images of nearby shoppers and morphs them to resemble the Na’vi, the tall, blue, and tiresomely eco-conscious residents of the planet Pandora in last year’s record-breaking science-fiction movie.

The morphed member of the public can then enter their email address on a touchscreen to receive a video file depicting their transformation as well as promotional information on the DVD and Blu-ray release of Avatar.
