London Expo launch for eco-friendly DOOH project

May’s Screen Media Expo Europe in London will play host to a party promoting environmental responsibility in digital out-of-home.

The event on the evening of 5 May will mark the launch of the Green Screen project from UK industry body The Screen Forum.

The project, supported by Harris, NEC, Magenta Research and True Colours, aims to develop sustainability guidelines for DOOH.

The party is free for members of The Screen Forum and Expo exhibitors, but open to anyone who pays for a £20 ($31) ticket.

Also at Screen Media Expo Europe, The Screen Forum is organising a tour from the Expo venue at Earls Court to the nearby Westfield London Shopping Centre, one of London’s prime digital out-of-home locations with an indoor network run by CBS Outdoor and exterior screens operated by Ocean Outdoor.

The tour – accompanied by creators of the Westfield installations – departs at 2pm on 5 May.

Screen Media Expo Europe itself has already registered 2000 visitors, putting it 40 percent of the way toward its 5000 target, while exhibitor numbers have nearly reached the goal of 130, according to organisers.

Besides the main show and peripheral events like The Screen Forum’s tour and party, this year’s Expo also features a fuller-than-ever conference and seminar schedule.

“We’re investing all our energies in our 2010 education programme,” said Mark Pigou, show director. “It has been intelligently devised, with three presentation channels running over the two days.”

Screen Media Expo Europe is at Earls Court on 5-6 May.
