China New Media eyes Beijing, Shanghai

China New Media is expanding further beyond its Dalian base with a  high-profile LED advertising screen in Tianjin, the sixth-largest city in the People’s Republic, and is looking toward developing its presence in the country’s biggest centres.

The company, traded on the U.S. stock market with the ticker symbol CMDI, has won the right to operate the 22-square-meter indoor LED at Tianjin’s railway station until August 2014.

The screen is located by the taxi and bus exits of the station, where China New Media also has non-digital light boxes by the taxi exit and the waiting area.

“Following the closing of our LED acquisition in Shenyang, this long-term contract represents another step forward in our strategic expansion plan,” said James Wang, China New Media’s chairman and CEO.

“Looking forward, we will continue to pursue opportunities to further expand our media resources in China’s first- and second-tier cities, especially in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenyang,” he added.

Tianjin, lying south of Beijing, has a population of around 12m.
