Today the UAE, tomorrow the Mid-East, says new firm

A new digital out-of-home operator in the United Arab Emirates plans to install more than 300 interactive units in malls by the first months of 2011.

Abu Dhabi Media Digital Out of Home, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC), will deploy systems that combine double-sided 65-inch LCD displays – showing advertising for the host malls as well as for consumer brands – with 22-inch LCD touchscreens guiding shoppers to stores. They are also equipped with card readers, printers, and Bluetooth connectivity.

It is branding the network, which will launch in the UAE but may be extended to other Middle Eastern countries, as Al Barq Digital.

After the mall rollout, the firm says the units could find applications in other types of venue, including airports, transit stations and exhibition centres. And it also plans to extend its digital out-of-home activity to mobile and outdoor media.

“ADMC has built a strong reputation as an innovative media company, and we strive to change the face of outdoor media with the launch of a veritable digital-signage network,” said CEO Ed Borgerding.

“This new digital media solution underscores our strategy of expanding into adjacent markets to drive future growth.”

ADMC, wholly owned by Abu Dhabi’s government, has substantial interests across media including free and pay TV, radio, newspapers, online, and film.
