Delhi Metro commissions pioneering LED network
The trend toward super-large screens at railway stations has reached India, with MIC Electronics set to install 25 full-colour day-and-night LED video-display boards at eight metro stations operated by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The $11.25m contract, lasting six months, will lead to an LED display network that is controlled from a single location, believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
Speaking to SCREENS.tv, MIC Electronics VP Narayana Paladugu said that although MIC would be responsible for setting up the entire infrastructure, it is currently not associated with advertising sales.
MIC's products are also used in venues such as digital theatres and theme parks, and “our screens are widely used across cricket stadiums in the Indian subcontinent”, added Paladugu. The firm has offices in the U.S., Dubai and Australia.
Separately, MIC and its subsidiary InfoSTEP are developing a system to allow international billboard booking, called GLOBIX, which it hopes will allow smaller advertisers easy access to outdoor-advertising opportunities far from their home regions.
Sagar Anisingaraju, CEO of InfoSTEP, had mentioned when Hyderabad-based MIC acquired a majority stake in the company late last year that there was increased demand for business-intelligence services throughout India and the Asia Pacific market.
