OVAB comes to Europe

The Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau (OVAB) today launched its European chapter, just weeks after unveiling its long-awaited metrics guidelines in New York.

The new German-headquartered arm says it aims to “showcase the technological, commercial and creative potential of the out-of-home segment and to establish uniform industry standards while strengthening the European-centric dialogue between manufacturers, service providers and the advertising industry”.

Among the tasks it faces not shared by its North American counterpart will be reconciling the different network-ownership patterns, regulatory environments and media traditions of Europe’s 50-odd nations to present a united front for the digital out-of-home sector.

Founder members are ECE Flatmedia, IBM Deutschland, Invidis Consulting, Minicom Advanced Systems, NEC Display Solutions, Neo Advertising – on of very few digital-signage network operators with a credible claim to be pan-European – and Philips.

OVAB Europe is operating out of Neo’s office in Hamburg, and heading the organisation as chairman is Dirk Hülsermann. Vice-chairman is Minicom Europe’s president Ronni Guggenheim, while ECE Flatmedia’s Richard Malley takes the treasurer role.
