Lloyds Pharmacy chooses Amscreen
Sir Alan Sugar’s digital-signage startup Amscreen is to trial a network for one of Britain’s biggest pharmacy chains.
Amscreen will put its 15-inch LCD units with wireless connectivity into branches of Lloyds Pharmacy in the Birmingham and Oxford regions.
With content displayed on an LED ticker as well as the main LCD screen, they will show advertising, customer information and promotional messaging.
Amscreen is chaired by the tough-talking serial entrepreneur Alan Sugar, with his son Simon acting as CEO and Lee McQueen, winner of a recent British series of The Apprentice, serving as development director.
And the company appears to be benefiting from Sugar’s connections at the highest levels of British business. Before the Lloyds contract emerged, Amscreen – just months old – had already been running a trial of digital signage for WHSmith, one of the country’s best-known book, news and stationery retail chains.
Lloyds Pharmacy, part of the German group Celesio, has more than 1700 branches across Britain.

Re: Aubrey Wright comment. I disagree; this is not a good advert for the digital out of home industry. The unit looks clunky, the screen too small - I can't imagine that this is going to engage consumers or to matter capture their attention. Big spec, small screen... info, promo, advertising... all on a 15" screen! I'll admit, it's not the worst solution out there, but it's still not good. It really is about time this industry stopped accepting weak concepts like this... Mr Sugar… you’re fired!!!

Their first big project, one hopes that it works well for them. Its a good advert for DOOH and the industry. Hopefully the system will be up and running for a long time.
