Sony to demo next-gen video wall at Screen Media Expo
Sony’s new Ziris Canvas, a system for managing video walls with screens of different sizes, orientations and rotation angles, will be making one of its first European outings at Screen Media Expo next month.
The vendor is promoting the technology as an opportunity for designers of screen media to break away from the rectangular limits of most video walls today.
“The impact [of video walls] was novel and exciting to begin with but, over the years, audience familiarity has somewhat reduced the ‘wow’ effect – in short, it has become stale,” said Sony.
With Canvas, however, it’s possible to create video walls in an almost unlimited number of shapes, as pictured.
Canvas includes three software components: Ziris Create for content authoring and scheduling, Ziris Manage for network management, and Ziris Edge for distribution
The players, meanwhile, are based on Sony Cell processors, developments of those originally used in the PlayStation3.
Canvas, expected to be seen on the Sony stand at Screen Media Expo Europe in London on 7-8 April, also supports Dolby digital surround sound.
