AirMedia bags more Shanghai airport sites

China’s AirMedia Group will next month strengthen its hold on digital out-of-home advertising at Shanghai’s two airports, through a deal with JCDecaux Momentum Shanghai Airport Advertising.

An existing contract for screens in Terminal 1 of both Pudong and Hongqiao airports has been extended until February 2012, and AirMedia has also gained the right to operate digital frames throughout the two airports.

Pudong and Hongqiao are  respectively the third and fourth largest airports in China by annual passenger numbers. Pudong has two terminals, while a second is planned to open at Hongqiao next year.

JCDecaux Momentum – a joint venture of French out-of-home firm JCDecaux, Airports of Shanghai, and Shanghai Momentum Media – rolled out more than 200 screens at the two airports, where it holds the rights to both exterior and interior advertising, in 2008.

The deal means that AirMedia’s digital frame network now comprises 30 airports, including China’s 15 largest.

And AirMedia’s airport network has been steadily expanding across the country. Earlier this year the firm, whose stock is traded on the U.S. NASDAQ exchange under the symbol AMCN, won the right to install 600 digital frames at Beijing Capital International Airport’s new third terminal.
