Video wall boosts ticket sales at Canadian museum
Sales uplift from digital signage is usually a phenomenon associated with retail stores – but a nonprofit in Canada is proving that it can be felt at other locations too.
The Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg saw dramatic growth in sales of particular tickets and in headphone rentals after promoting them on a new video wall at its admissions counter.
“The presentations on the video wall are very powerful and had an immediate impact on visitor behaviour and our business,” said Javier Schwersensky, the museum’s marketing director.
The 3x2 wall of LCDs shows multiple simultaneous messages, updated weekly, including admission prices for the different venues operated by the museum; package deals for visiting several venues; and promotions of special events and exhibits.
After the museum featured a new price plan on the wall, sales of multi-venue tickets rose by 42 percent, while highlighting headphones that can be hired for an audio tour of the exhibits resulted in a 200 percent sales uplift.
Kitting out more visitors with headphones is important to the institution, which believes that they not only improve the way the museum is experienced but also increase the likelihood of return visits and help spread positive word of mouth.
Local reseller Evolution Presentation Technologies supplied RidgeLogic’s SceneStudio Pro digital-signage system, while the screens came from NEC Display Solutions and incorporate its TileMatrix technology.
