Digital-signage vendors offer mobile management
Interactivity between digital out-of-home media and consumers’ mobile phones is almost old hat. But now digital-signage vendors are finding a new use for the ubiquitous pieces of pocket plastic: enabling network management through the cellphone.
The latest is Hughes Network Systems, whose iPhone app for its MediaSignage system allows users of the popular Apple phone – as well as the same manufacturer’s iPod Touch and new iPad – to update content across the network from their mobile devices.
Said Mike Tippets, VP of Hughes Solutions Group. “Overwhelmingly, the feedback from beta testing was this is a convenient, easy-to-use application which is ideal for emergency situations.”
Stratacache also recently introduce an iPhone app for its ActiVia for Media digital-signage software, giving access to the ActiVia Constellation Manager administrator’s console.
“The ActiVia iPhone App is ideal for environments such as quick-service restaurants, hospitality, and retail where a local user, who may not have ongoing access to a PC, can manage their signage network while performing duties on the go,” suggested the firm.
As well as updating content, managers can view what’s currently playing on each device on the DOOH network, and see location maps for each media player.
UCView, meanwhile, has a mobile application for its digital-signage system that’s not limited to the iPhone but works with other handsets too. Among its functions: snapshots of the entire network, statistics on media players, and the ability to restart devices.
