Digital pundit Guy Kewney dies at 63
Guy Kewney, a blogger on SCREENS.tv from its inception and the star columnist for our sister publication Screen Media Magazine, died yesterday. He was 63.
Kewney was probably the best-known and most influential British technology journalist of his generation, with unparalleled access to the luminaries of the digital universe and a powerful platform in Personal Computer World magazine, where he wrote a column for three decades.
He also contributed to – and in many cases edited, launched, or was otherwise the driving force behind – a vast range of other publications including PC Dealer, PC Magazine UK, PC Direct, Computer Life, IT Week, and ZDNet, as well as a number of television shows.
Writing for Screen Media Magazine and SCREENS.tv, Kewney was particularly interested in the implications of new advertising media such as digital out-of-home for consumer privacy, and the balance between privacy and targeting.
After being diagnosed with cancer last year, he blogged extensively, and often humorously, about his experience of living with the condition.
