Libraries offered free digital signage at checkout
U.S. library-technology supplier Library Automation Technologies (LAT) has upgraded its self-service product line with digital-signage capabilities.
LAT’s systems, which let customers check out books from a library without assistance, will now be able to display digital messaging when not serving a patron.
Each unit can show different content, or they can be managed in groups, according to LAT.

Mitsubishi gets into Guinness with Dallas LEDs
Mitsubishi Electric has entered the Guinness World Records again, this time for installing the world’s largest high-definition display at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas.
Hung in the centre of the stadium, it consists of four LED screens – two long units measuring 22m by 49m each, and two smaller end-zone displays measuring 9m by 25.5m.
The whole assembly weighs 544 tons.

NDS goes plug-and-play with entry-level software
Net Display Systems of the Netherlands is the latest digital-signage software vendor to offer a cut-down, “plug-and-play” version of its software.
Based on the firm’s Pads Professional package, Pads2Go was launched last week at the Total Media event in Madrid.
The software, which is supplied with examples and wizards to aid digital-signage novices, can be combined with AOpen’s WarmTouch – a combination of 19-inch monitor and computer – 
Ronin links screens to in-store security system
Wireless Ronin Technologies in the U.S. has teamed up with retail-security specialist InVue Security Products to offer digital-merchandising systems to InVue’s worldwide client base.
A customised version of the firm’s RoninCast software will send promotional messages to displays attached to products in the store that are linked to InVue’s security system.
The messaging will appear when shoppers pick up the products, typically high-value items.

User feedback will guide development of free service
Germany’s 42media Group says it is working on technology that will allow third parties to customise its free Web-based content-management system for digital signage.
The application programming interface (API) will, it hopes, encourage use of the free service currently in beta. It expects to attract single-site end users such as hair salons and fashion boutiques.

Asia Media to broadcast live to Malaysian buses
Malaysia’s Asia Media plans to roll out digital video broadcasting (DVB) to its bus screens over the next three years.
DVB will allow Asia Media to show live content such as news, sports and weather on its screens, as well as to offer interactive features.
The firm, which has applied for but has still to receive a government licence for the new technology, expects it to help grow 
Brazilian eye patients to gain 3D vision
Brazilian eye-clinic chain Cerpo Oftalmologia is installing glasses-free 3D displays at 11 of its clinics in and around Sao Paulo.
The displays from Group 3D Impact Media will show advertising and entertainment content as well as information related to eye health.
The network, comprising 29 displays in total, is expected to reach about 45,000 consumers monthly.

Banks told to build networks of digital photo frames
The humble digital photo frame could provide an effective customer-communications tool for banks, according to U.S. firm Reality Interactive.
The company is suggesting that its new Bitshuttle software should be used with off-the-shelf photo frames placed at teller positions to provide customers with information on bank rates and products. The software can also drive larger screens.
