Cubb, CoolSign eye Mid-Eastern out-of-home growth

Vendors of digital out-of-home systems continue to show interest in the developing Middle Eastern market, with wearable-media firm Cubb securing representation in notoriously hard-to-crack Saudi Arabia and CoolSign supplier CS Software adding support for Arabic text.

Cubb’s wearable Cyklop screens will now be offered by Saudi company Brand Commandos, a marketing firm which describes itself as offering “non-traditional communications strategies and tactics only for the daring”. It will be

Kinoton to show 360-degree transparent display

Display maker Kinoton will show a transparent cylindrical LED screen at this month’s IBC2009 event.

Products housed inside the 360-degree Litefast Magic display are still visible through the LED image, and the unit also has space for conventional backlit posters in its pedestal for further branding.

The Litefast Magic and Kinoton’s smaller desktop Litefast Minis are said to be the only completely transparent digital displays available.

Homegrown tech to underpin Japanese market growth

The Japanese digital-signage market will swell to ten times its current size by 2015, according to a new report.

Yeunsil Lee of Research on Asia Group predicts that the digital out-of-home sector in Japan, currently worth about 70bn yen ($740m) a year, will reach 700bn yen ($7.4bn)  by 2015.

That is about ten percent of current annual advertising spend in Japan.

Amscreen signs HMV, Coffee Nation

Amscreen in the UK continues to secure associations with high-profile brands, most recently through a deal with music retailer HMV to place informational screens in its stores’ ticket booths.

The first stage of the rollout will see Amscreen kit installed in the booths selling tickets for concerts and other events at 27 stores, including HMV’s flagship on London’s Oxford Street.

Ronin signs NEC as reseller; Remote Media to co-brand

The importance of hardware partners and the reseller channel to digital-signage system vendors was underlined this week by U.S. firm Wireless Ronin and Britain’s Remote Media.

Wireless Ronin has enlisted screen supplier NEC Display Solutions as a reseller, giving the software firm the chance of sales to NEC’s large accounts.
