Neo moves into China, wins Swiss airport

Neo Advertising’s digital out-of-home aggregation service BookingDOOH has made its Chinese debut with a deal to offer advertisers the network of bus screens run by state broadcaster CCTV.

With the addition of the CCTV screens on buses, BookingDooh now has 52 partners with 200,000 screens, reaching 350m viewers each week.

The buses where CCTV operates are themselves said to have a footfall of about 53m people daily –

IMS Research says that the overall market for digital-signage technology continues to grow, albeit at a slower pace than before the recession.

China New Media expects fast return from giant LEDs

China New Media Corporation plans to build three more giant LED screens in the northeastern city of Dalian this year, further evidence of the Chinese digital out-of-home market spreading out of the biggest cities into smaller regional centres.

The company is also planning screens on-street and at transportation sites in Shenyang and Tianjin.

VeriFone gains control of New York City cab screens

Payments firm VeriFone is now the dominant digital-media operator in New York City cabs, following a deal this week to acquire Clear Channel Outdoor’s advertising rights to thousands of the vehicles.

In-taxi screens have for several years been mandatory for New York City cabs, a regulation which has laid the foundation for an extensive and long-lasting network.

Chicago community screens aid small businesses

An unusual partnership between a digital-signage firm and a Chicago neighbourhood body is attracting bus riders into local businesses.

Technology supplier RedPost partnered with the Wicker Park and Bucktown (WPB) special service area – one of several such organisations around Chicago charged with improving parts of the city – to place screens along four bus routes.

JCDecaux plans new screens for Nice airport

JCDecaux Airport will introduce new digital displays and projection units to Aéroport Nice Côte d’Azur after securing advertising rights at the French airport for a further seven years.

The company will also focus on making its advertising displays more eco-friendly with lower energy consumption, and on meeting the needs of the mobility-impaired.

Nice is the second-largest of the outdoor-advertising giant’s 36 French airports, with 10.4m passengers last year..

Chicago transit body pessimistic on digital revenue

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has cut its minimum requirement for digital advertising revenue by two thirds, scaling back its expectations for the next five years as economic conditions bite.

The transport body has signed a contract renewing Titan Outdoor’s right to sell all print and digital advertising on its trains and buses and at stations. Only bus shelters – owned by JCDecaux – are excluded from the deal.

TrainFX bags contract for passenger info displays

Britain’s TrainFX has secured its first deal to provide in-carriage digital signage for a train operator.

It has signed a £1m ($1.7m) contract with First Great Western to supply and install passenger information systems on two fleets of trains, according to local reports.

The trains serve routes in the Thames Valley, near London.

The contract comes just days after TrainFX’s parent, RAM Investment Group, underlined its interest
